Stejjer minn Wied il-Għajn

On 18 June, residents and friends of Marsaskala gathered at Dar Frate Jacoba for Stejjer minn Wied il-Għajn (Stories from Marsaskala), an event organised as part of the Voices from Marsaskala Bay project, led by the Department of Classics and Archaeology within the Faculty of Arts at the University of Malta in partnership with MELA.

The evening opened with introductory remarks by Dr Carmel Serracino, Head of the Department of Classics and Archaeology, who highlighted the importance of preserving local memory and encouraging dialogue between academic research and community experience.

Dr Steve Borg then shared stories, memories, and reflections on the history of Marsaskala, highlighting the ways in which local identity is shaped not only by places and events, but also by the experiences and recollections of the people who call the locality home.

One of the most encouraging aspects of the event was the active involvement of those present. Following the presentation, participants contributed their own memories, stories, photographs, and reflections, enriching the discussion with personal perspectives and helping to bring different moments of Marsaskala’s history to life.

The event concluded with an informal reception, allowing participants to continue conversations, exchange stories, and build new connections in a welcoming atmosphere.

Voices from Marsaskala Bay will continue over the coming months through further research, public engagement activities, and collaborative initiatives exploring the memories, histories, and lived experiences connected to Marsaskala and its bay.
