Film Screening and Discussion
MELA is organising a screening of the award-winning short film Cookie Box, in collaboration with the Migrants Commission and the Archbishop’s Seminary. The event forms part of an evening of reflection titled The Art of Awareness: Women, Film, and the Mediterranean, exploring how women’s experiences are represented, narrated, and voiced through film. The conversation will open space to reflect on questions of representation, voice, and agency, particularly in relation to women’s lived realities across the Mediterranean.
The screening will take place on 27 May 2026 at the Ċentru Kristu Ragħaj Hall, Archbishop’s Seminary, and will be followed by a panel discussion engaging perspectives from film, culture, and theology.

The discussion, moderated by Nadia Delicata, will feature contributions by Sigrid Müller, Adam Żurawiecki, and Karsten Xuereb, opening space for reflection on questions of representation, voice, and agency, particularly in relation to women’s lived realities across the Mediterranean.
Nadia Delicata is Associate Professor of Fundamental Moral Theology and of Christianity in Digital Culture at the University of Malta. She did all her theological training at the Toronto School of Theology of the University of Toronto, where she was also a Fellow of the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology, specializing in media ecology. She is currently training as a Gestalt psychotherapist.
Univ.-Prof. Dr. Sigrid Müller teaches Moral Theology at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna in Austria. Her research covers the history of moral theology, with an emphasis on Late Medieval (“nominalist”) developments in moral theory and their importance for today’s discussions, as well as fundamental questions of moral theology in relationship to current ethical discussions, and ethical questions raised by current technological developments. Together with Dr. Slavomír Dlugoš, she has co-founded the Association of Bioethicists in Central Europe, and, with Stephan Goertz, she is co-editing the new book series of “Studien der Moraltheologie”.
Adam Żurawiecki is a visual artist and director whose aesthetic is shaped by the culture of the 80s and 90s, Social Sciences, and Contemporary Art. He began over 25 years ago as a professional rollerblader, documenting skate culture, an experience that shaped his eye for movement, rhythm, and authenticity.
His latest short film, “Cookie Box,” marks a pivotal moment in his creative journey. The film has gained international recognition for its portrayal of migration and domestic violence through the eyes of a migrant woman, resonating across cultures and continents.

Dr Karsten Xuereb is Executive (Research & Statistics) at Arts Council Malta. He previously conducted research for the UNESCO World Heritage Nomination Project at the Ministry for Culture and served as cultural attaché at the Maltese Representation to the EU in Brussels. Earlier, he had led preparations for Valletta 2018, the European Capital of Culture. Karsten holds a PhD from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Tarragona (2012), benefiting from a UNESCO grant and an MA from the University of Warwick (2005) as a Chevening scholar.
