Walking Along
Marsaskala Bay

This walk and workshop is designed to explore the diverse perspectives, histories, and contemporary challenges of the coast of Marsaskala. Through observation, dialogue, and reflection, participants will engage actively with the landscape and with each other, developing their own interpretations of Marsaskala’s past and present.

The activity will take place on 23 May 2026, beginning at 4:00 PM, with the meeting point at St Thomas Tower.

The activity will be structured in three parts:

From St Thomas Tower to Żonqor Point

Exploratory Walk

Participants will walk in an open, exploratory format that encourages curiosity, discussion, and shared interpretation.
They will be invited to take photographs using their mobile phones, capturing objects, buildings, activities, or scenes that they feel represent Wied il-Għajn today and/or in the past.
Dialogue and exchange among participants will be central to this part of the experience, with individuals encouraged to ask questions, share observations, and reflect collectively.

Reflective Walk

This segment will take place in silence, without photography, allowing participants time to reflect on what they observed, documented, and discussed. The walk will conclude at the Parish Centre, where coffee and light refreshments will be served.
Participants who wish to share their photos can share them with the organizers.

Round Table Discussion

The event will conclude with a moderated discussion led by Dr Judith Gatt (University of Malta) and Rev. Jean Claude Attard (MELA).
A selection of photographs taken during the walk will serve as prompts for discussion.
Participants will be invited to share reflections and perspectives in a respectful and inclusive environment, where all contributions are valued.

Those wishing to attend are kindly invited to register here.

This project is developed by the Department of Classics and Archaeology at the University of Malta, in collaboration with MELA, and in partnership with Marsaskala Parish and the Marsaskala Residents Network.
