What have we learned to live with?
Not all violence looks violent once we have learned to live with it.
It begins before the violent act: in what we excuse, what we laugh at, what we stop noticing and what we decide is normal.
Mediterranean Notebooks is a small cultural archive of what we have learned to live with and what we might learn to see again.
Each Notebook moves twice: first we notice an ordinary scene, object or gesture; then we read what it may reveal about the forms of life taking shape around us.
These reflections begin in the Mediterranean, without claiming that every experience described belongs only to it.
They attend to what becomes familiar: what we excuse, inherit, enjoy, resist and stop seeing.
We begin by paying attention.
